The IPC Summer Camp field trip to Jumbaloo, an indoor playpark in Mississauga, was one of the most memorable and enjoyable summer trips. While planning the trip, we anticipated a fun day off-site for the campers, but it exceeded all expectations for everyone involved.
The day began excitedly as we did a head count of all campers present, assigned everyone a partner, and loaded them onto the buses. As soon as we were on board, the campers were already engaged in cheerful and excited conversations as we neared our destination. Upon arrival, the campers were immediately drawn to the massive and colourful play structures ahead. They eagerly navigated the obstacle courses, slid down the massive slides, and bounced on the trampolines.
When the campers needed a break and refreshments, a designated room was provided for them to recharge before diving back into the fun. What made this trip even more special was that both campers and counsellors got to participate in the activities. Breaking away from the usual routine of observing from the sidelines, counsellors joined in, making the day even more enjoyable for everyone.
One of the highlights of the day was the spontaneous games inside the bounce park. Counsellors issued mini-races for the campers through the obstacle course, which turned out to be a hit. An unorthodox version of tag also broke out, where mini balls were tossed around as a way of being tagged, adding to the fun and excitement.
The energy remained high throughout the day, and seeing the campers fully engaged and enjoying themselves made the experience incredibly fulfilling. The drive back to camp was just as lively, with both campers and counsellors sharing their favourite anecdotes, photos, and stories from the day.
