In the life of a Muslim, there is a profound emphasis on seizing opportunities and making the most of blessings before they are lost. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم advises this in a Hadith, urging believers to take advantage of five blessings before they are deprived of them. It is narrated by Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنھ saying: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your free time before your work, and your life before your death” (Shu’ab al-Imān lil-Bayhaqī 10250).
Youth, Health, Wealth, Free Time, and Life itself are the five blessings highlighted in the Hadith, each carrying its significance in the journey of a believer.
Youth symbolizes vigor, passion, and energy—a time when one's efforts and enthusiasm can be directed towards righteous endeavors. However, it passes by very swiftly, giving way to the inevitable onset of old age.
Similarly, health is a blessing often overlooked until it's compromised. In the pursuit of our worldly affairs, we often forget to cherish the bounty bestowed upon us by Allah. It's only when illness strikes that we realize its true worth.
Man’s love of wealth is intense, and Allah criticizes man’s love for wealth. But at the same time, Allah uses the word خیر for wealth. خیر in Arabic means good. So wealth can be used as a means of good or it can be used as a means for evil. It is simply a tool. So how have we utilized our wealth?
Free time is a precious commodity. In a world filled with distractions, utilizing free time for acts of worship, self-improvement, and serving the community is a testament to one's commitment to faith and righteousness.
Lastly, life itself is a blessing bestowed upon us by the Creator. Its brevity serves as a constant reminder of our mortality and the urgency to lead a life pleasing to Allah. Each moment is an opportunity to draw closer to Him, to perform acts of kindness, and to leave a positive legacy behind.
In essence, the Hadith serves as a call to action—a reminder to prioritize our blessings and invest in deeds that have eternal rewards. By embracing these five opportunities before they slip away, believers can lead a life of purpose, fulfillment, and prosperity.

The IPC Summer Camp has been buzzing with excitement as we embark on various field trips, arts and crafts, and activities designed to provide fun, learning, and memorable experiences for our campers. Our recent trip on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, to Erindale Park was a huge success. The campers enjoyed a day filled with engaging activities, team-building exercises, and plenty of outdoor fun. From soccer games to relay races, the kids had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed their time at the park.
But the fun doesn't stop there! We have two more exciting trips planned for Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The younger campers, aged 4-9, will be heading to Jumbaloo, an indoor play center where they can explore, play, and unleash their energy in a safe and fun environment. Meanwhile, the older kids, aged 10-14, will be visiting GlowZone, an entertainment center featuring glow-in-the-dark mini-golf, laser tag, and arcade games. These dual trips on the same day are set to offer experiences for both age groups, ensuring everyone has a fantastic time.
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, we will be hosting an Olympic Sports Day for the campers. This event will include a variety of fun and competitive sports activities designed to promote teamwork, fitness, and sportsmanship. Campers will have the chance to participate in events like relay races, tug-of-war, and more, showcasing their skills and having a great time.
Furthermore, we will be having a fire truck come visit the masjid on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, to demonstrate fire safety to the campers.
In addition to these exciting excursions, we are pleased to announce a community trip to Centre Island taking place on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. This trip promises to be a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to come together and enjoy a beautiful day out.
